99 Pets Cared for During Telegraph Fire
As the state-designated emergency response team for pets, AHS was deployed to evacuation sites in Mesa and Globe. We are thrilled to share that both teams have returned home, and that we were able to care for 99 pets whose families had been displaced by the fire. Our team’s first deployment this year—and the first deployment in AHS history in which two teams were called out at once—was a success. Come behind the scenes and see what it took to make it happen.

Reuniting Pets with the People Who Love Them
Bernie, a 7-year-old Boston Terrier, was brought to a local emergency vet after possibly being hit by a car and was then transferred to the Arizona Humane Society by our Emergency Animal Medical Technicians™. Poor Bernie had abrasions on his hind end and was in a lot of pain. But luckily for Bernie, his journey home was just beginning.

Interested in Adopting Tony?
Due to the unprecedented worldwide pandemic, Maricopa County is facing a housing crisis as thousands of people and their pets are in danger of eviction and being displaced from their homes. AHS has teamed up with other leading Valley animal welfare organizations to create the Pet Housing Help AZ Task Force, which is committed to helping both our four- and two-legged friends who have been impacted by COVID-19.

As part of this task force, we’ve created the Pet Housing Help AZ rehoming and fostering site, which allows individuals in need to connect directly with other Valley residents to rehome or temporarily foster their pet. You can help make this heart-wrenching situation better by adopting or fostering a beloved four-legged family member like Tony.

Tony is a beautiful, loving, and sensitive 60-pound, 8-month-old boy. He bonds very strongly to his owner and needs someone who can bond with him just as strongly. His favorite things in life are wrestling with his best friend and brother (a 20-pound terrier), lounging in the pool or chasing the hose water, playing with his rope toy Hippo, and following you from room to room (just to make sure you don’t get lonely). He loves his daily runs and feels best emotionally when he is exercised regularly. He does great on hikes and is both kennel and potty trained, but has grown up using a dog door so he might need help learning how to ask to go out. He LOVES to learn new tricks because he is VERY food motivated.

Tony does experience separation anxiety when left alone and needs lots of reassurance that he is still loved when you return. He wants to be with you wherever you go. He loves children/family and other dogs, and definitely has the instinct to alert his family of potential threats. Tony is a super sweet, gentle, and sensitive soul who needs a home that can find the balance between letting him be a real dog and understanding his need for a compassionate owner.
